Imphal, September 07 2023:
A total of 35 CSOs and clubs of the state including COCOMI, FOCS, Committee on 30 AC, MAKCIMAL, TAKDAL, SAL, AMTUC & AMGEO, Youth of Manipur among others have agreed to unite and face the present situation in the state.
The decision was arrived during a public meeting organised by Thawai Mirel Women's Wing at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen on Thursday.
The meet also resolved that a meeting which will pass a joint resolution of the CSOs attending Thursday's meet will be held on Friday, which will be participated by two-three representatives each of every CSOs.
Consequently, Thawai Mirel has resolved to withdraw its indefinite hunger strike and to extend support to the 48-hour public curfew called by TAKDAL.
Further, the meet appealed to any CSOs that were not able to attend Thursday's meet to join Friday's CSOs meeting.
Speaking at the meet, Thawai Mirel Women Wing convener Th Sujata stated that the meeting was held with an aim to press the CSOs to unite and speak with 'one voice' to confront the pre vailing situation that has engulfed the state for four months now.
A detail discussion is needed to find out the reasons on why the central government has not resolved the conflict till now.
If all of the CSOs act together, the centre will definitely listen, she contended.
Sujata continued that mothers cannot remain silent at the present situation, that's why, they resorted to relay hunger strike and then intensified it to indefinite hunger strike.
However, it is unfortunate that the government, which during election bowed down to the mothers for votes, has remained silent to their agitation, she rued.
She further observed that it's time the government deeply contemplates the condition in the state as youths have now come out in droves demanding a solution for the present volatile situation.
The situation demands a conscious and calculated move as the state might be staring towards a bleak future if the youths, in the absence of a guiding force, move towards a wrong direction, she added.
The programme, which was moderated by advocate Khaidem Mani, was attended by AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi and Manipur University Law Department professor Y Premananda as presidium members.
At the end of the meeting, the two women who were in hunger strike for four days ended their fast following the decision to unite the CSOs.
