Sub Jr NFC: State boys thump Haryana 8-0, girls thrash Goa 9-0

Md Wajit, Md Salfrosh and Soibam Drunao Singh stored a double apiece as Manipur recorded their third straight win in dominant fashion with an 8-0 thrashing of Haryana in their Group B encounter in the Sub Junior Boys' National Football Championship 2023-24 (Tier 1 Group Stage) on Thursday at Berhampore Stadium, Odisha.
Tomsana Yumnam was on target in the 10th minute to open the floodgates for Manipur as Md Wajit upped the ante with a quick double (22', 25') before Md Salfrosh followed suit, scoring twice in the first and second minutes of first-half added time.
After the break, Soibam Dronao made it 6-0 in the 57th minute and he went on to collect his second goal in the 73rd minute before Hamid Ahmed added a goal in the 82nd minute to wrap up the victory.
Meanwhile, Manipur overpowered Goa 9-0 in their Group A match of the Sub Junior Girls' National Football Championship 2023-24 (Tier 1 Group Stage) on Thursday.
However, the state girls failed to qualify in the semifinals.
Manipur and Jharkhand were level on seven points in the Group A standings, but the latter edged out the former on goal difference for a place in the Tier 1 last four.
Longjam Nira Chanu led the scoring by dishing out a five-goal blitz (8', 13', 45+1', 66', 75'), with Tonambam Taniya Devi (26'), Agarani Wahengbam (68'), Yumkhaibam Bibitalbi Devi (70') and Irom Priyadashini Devi (84') also getting their names on the scoreboard.
