Crisis will remain in world history: Bimol
Source: Chronicle News Service

Kakching, April 26 2025: Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on Saturday said the ongoing crisis in the state would remain etched in world history, criticising the government's failure to uphold the Constitution and ensure the people's fundamental rights.

During a meeting with party workers at the Block Congress Committee (BCC) office in Kakching, Bimol said that the undermining of an elected government and the failure to guarantee the freedom of movement under Article 19 of the Constitution demonstrated the government's inability to uphold constitutional values.

He said he had raised these issues in Parliament, emphasising that whether Kuki or Meetei, everyone must be allowed free movement.

Earlier in the day, Bimol was given a rousing welcome by the public as he visited Kakching.

He offered prayers at the shrines of Ibudhou Khamlangba at Kakching Khullen and Kakching Wairi, and at Kakching Keithel Lairembi, before having lunch with the public.

At the BCC office, he interacted with members of the District Congress Committee (DCC) Kakching and BCC Kakching.

Speaking at the meeting, Bimol said dissolving an elected government, allowing central rule, and the pursuit of power by politicians are not acts of love for the people.

He accused the Centre of keeping Manipur in a state of chaos, lawlessness, and uncertainty, under the guise of facilitating dialogues.

He added that the simple cessation of armed skirmishes should not be misconstrued as peace, and questioned the circumstances behind the suspension of hostilities terming it suspicious.

Bimol said that whenever such issues are raised, there are attempts to blame the Congress Party for politicising the matter, despite the party having only five MLAs in the state assembly.

He stressed that a true solution could only be achieved when displaced people are able to return and rehabilitate at their ancestral homes.

He questioned how the government allowed the crisis to happen at the first place, and to unfold over the past two years, and why the dissolution of the state assembly and imposition of President's Rule were permitted.

He urged party workers to work diligently to secure a mandate in the forthcoming state assembly election, like that in the Lok Sabha election, saying it would be a crucial point for both the party and the future of Manipur.

He also cautioned against electing candidates who would follow the dictates of Delhi.

Recalling Dr BR Ambedkar's statement that a party would fall when it put itself ahead of the people, Bimol urged party workers to serve the people with true hearts and make Congress the flag bearer of a new Manipur.

He said he had many aspirations for the state's development but highlighted that limited fund and large coverage areas pose major challenges.

He assured the public that he would do whatever possible after consultations.

Bimol also called for efforts to make Kakching a model town by digitising records of roads, streets, and drainage systems, widening them for the future, and taking initiatives to protect and conserve the Shengmai River.

During the event, separate memorandums highlighting several demands and issues were submitted to Dr Bimol by the Working Committee on Rejuvenation of Irum Turel Kakching, People's Museum Kakching, and Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association.

He later interacted with youths at Kakching Atheneum Library at Kakching Paji Leikai.

MPCC secretary Kshetrimayum Kennedy, DCC Kakching president A Rahaman Chesaba, BCC Kakching president Nongmaithem Ashok, AICC and NSUI general secretary Md Kabir Ahamad, District Mahila Congress Committee Kakching president Moirangthem Inakhunbi, Block Mahila Congress Committee Kakching president Moirangthem Pishak, PCC member Huidrom Jiten of Hiyanglam AC, BCC Kakching treasurer and Kakching Municipal Council caretaker councillor M Memcha, caretaker councillor M Uma, BCC Kakching former president and advisor Kshetrimayum Ibohal, BCC Kakching vice-presidents Md Gayasuddin and Ph Hemanta, and former Pallel GP ward member Md Samiuddin were present during the meeting held at the BCC office.
