Give list of doctors engaged in private hospitals: MHRC to RIMS

In light of repeated incidents of patient deaths under controversial circumstances at RIMS, Imphal, the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has initiated a suo motu inquiry and ordered the Director of the medical institution to provide a detailed report regarding the incidents within 15 days.
The suo motu proceeding listed the Director and Medical Superintendent of RIMS, Imphal as the respondents.
As per the MHRC order, the report should include copies of all medical records, staffing levels and measures taken to address the grievances of the patients' relatives.
In view of the gravity of the situation, MHRC has also directed RIMS authorities to provide a list of doctors engaged in private practice (if any) and ensure that this information is made accessible to the public.
The Commission has further directed RIMS authorities to ensure uninterrupted medical services, especially emergency care; maintain strict adherence to protocols for patient safety and grievance redressal and provide psychological support and assistance to affected families.
It is worth recalling here that the Teachers' and Medical Officers' Association (TAMOA), RIMS has suspended its agitation and resumed hospital care services from today.
Additionally, MHRC has instructed public authorities and hospital management to fully cooperate with the inquiry and ensure preservation of all relevant records.
Stating that the Commission will examine the need for further remedial measures, with appropriate recommendations if required, it cautioned that non- compliance with this order may invite appropriate action under the provisions of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.On another note, the suo motu inquiry was initiated by the MHRC under section 12(a) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.It will look into the alleged acts of medical negligence and human rights violations at RIMS, Imphal and examine the circumstances leading to the deaths of Gotimayum ongbi Laiphrakpam ningol Ranibala, Nongthombam ningol Chingsubam ongbi Manju, and Yambem Sanjoy.
It will also analyse the adequacy and timeliness of medical care and emergency services provided by RIMS during the relevant period, effectiveness of internal monitoring mechanisms and inquiries conducted by the hospital, complaints and grievances of patients' relatives regarding hospital management and treatment protocols, measures taken by hospital authorities to prevent recurrence of similar incidents and the hospital's compliance with National guidelines on patient care, human rights, and ethical medical practice.
