Pettigrew college defends Principal

Ukhrul, September 22 2017: Taking serious note of the charges levelled against Dr Ninghorla, the Principal of Pettrigrew College, Ukhrul, the college authority has today rubbished all the allegations and termed them as baseless and unfounded.

They said normal regular classes have been going on smoothly after local MLA Alfred Kangam Arthur provided free college bus service from July for the students and the lecturers in order to ensure maximum classes during the academic session .

The college rebuted the charges during a press conference held at the office of Ukhrul District Working Journalists’ Association today and lecturer Dr Chisthi said they have come to the office of the UDWJA after taking their classes at the college .

Chemistry lecturer N Momon Singh said that after Dr Ninghorla took over as the Principal-in-charge of the college in 2011, there has been impressive progress in the college .

Elaborating, he said that now the college has biotech hub and community college, virtual class-room and diploma course in Information and Technology .

Principal-in-charge Dr Ninghorla said that the college is functioning under a system and as per the rules laid down .

The college has a Head of the Department (HoD) for every department and the academic in-charge of the college supervises them as well as affairs of the students which has helped the college to function smoothly .

The Principal further said that any lecturer who do not dispense with their duties are penalised and added that she served a show cause notice to one Assistant Professor for prolonged absence on July 31 .

She further expressed dismay with the charges levelled against her, despite her relentless efforts to develop and improve the college .

Dr Ninghorla explained that after she was posted as the Principal-in-charge of the college in 2011, more than 200 students were admitted in both higher secondary and degree courses, but after the higher secondary section was scrapped in the college, the number of students generally decreased .

Besides a new private college came up in Ukhrul, she added .

The Principal maintained that the college fund is dealt by the college management committee in a transparent manner .

Dr Ninghorla added that she at times have to move out of station, as her physical presence is needed at some other places of the State and beyond and asked the student community to understand the activities and responsibilities of the college Principal .

Dr Ninghorla also appealed to the students to cooperate with the teaching faculties and the college administration so that the college runs smoothly.
