Imphal, January 22 2014 :
Holding Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh responsible for irregularities in the recruitment of Sub Inspectors and Jemadars, as reported in this daily today, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has demanded resignation of the CM on moral ground.
speaking to newspersons at its office near Mapal Kangjeibung today, MPP spokesperson Heigrujam Nabashyam said the Government of Manipur not heeding official missive from the police headquarters about the Recruitment Board detecting anomalies during the recruitment process tantamount to the Government patronising wrongdoers as well as supporting corrupt practices.
Noting TSE's report about the Recruitment Board highlighting irregularities in the 2010 recruitment exercise, Nabashyam said selection of some candidates not fulfilling prescribed norms only testifies State authorities' alleged involvement in corruption/malpractices.
As head of the Government, who also held the Home portfolio at that time, Chief Minister Ibobi should tender resignation immediately for intentionally encouraging corruption, he asserted while regretting that despite official intimation from the police headquarters about the recruitment anomalies the Government failed to initiate remedial measures.
Claiming that in the previous recruitment exercises too there had been report about irregularities but no concrete measures were taken at the report virtually lacked evidence, Nabashyam said as anomalies including furnishing fake documents have been pointed out in detail in the TSE report responsibilities should be fixed and the guilty ones subjected to legal action.
Not only should selection of the unqualified SI and Jemadars be invalidated, O ibobi too do not deserve to remain in such a responsible post as the Chief Minister of the State, reiterated the MPP functionary.
Regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he confided that the party's special session on January 30 will decide whether or not to field its own candidate.
The same session will also discuss on Dr M Nara's nomination as the common candidate of 10 political organisations, he added.
