Imphal, January 16 2026:
Phungyar AC MLA Leisiyo Keishing has stated that the Government of India's inability to resolve the crisis in Manipur, a State with a population smaller than that of a district in Bihar, reflects its lack of seriousness.
He made the statement during the opening ceremony of the 14th Southern Tangkhul Catholic Congress, a five-day event held at Tangkhul Hundung Khullen yesterday.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA emphasized that finding a solution to the protracted crisis would be much easier if the Government works sincerely.
He said that people, nonetheless, must endorse the initiative being taken up by the Government to restore normalcy in the State.
Saying that one of the primary root causes of the crisis in Manipur is economic hardship, lack of employment opportunities, and heavy reliance on others, he said that the successive State Governments have made no effort to generate employment since Manipur attained Statehood.
Other than recruiting some Government staff, there has been no effort to engage the Manipuri youths in factories, industries, or other forms of business, he added.
What opportunities are there for the youths in Manipur? he asked, while questioning about the fate of Manitron and Spinning Mill project.
The Manipur Startup Scheme was launched five years ago, but it has remained at the startup stage with no progress, he said.
Many educated youths are unemployed in Manipur, he said, adding that the lack of employment opportunities is a troubling sign for society.
Leisiyo stated that reliance on limited resources creates room for conflict among the people.
A stable family will never encourage animosity among its members, the MLA said, adding that the ongoing crisis in Manipur is a manifestation of the unresolved, chronic issues in the State.
