Senapati, June 06 2025:
Following his assurance to maintain a steady supply of essential goods to Manipur through an alternate route despite the National Highway-2 blockage caused by a massive landslide at Phesama, Nagaland, MLA AC MLA Losii Dikho met Chief Secretary PK Singh to update him on the road conditions.
A well placed source said that the Chief Secretary acknowledged the concerns and instructed officials to expedite major repairs on the 9-km stretch of the Mao-Chakhabama road via Kedima.
On Friday morning, the MLA was present at the site, supervising and monitoring the repair works, which involved heavy machinery and labourers.
The roadworks include widening and filling the narrow stretch, laying stones and compacting them, as well as clearing the jungle and drainage areas along the way.
Reportedly, normal movement of heavy trucks has been allowed, while stranded empty trucks in Khuzama have been redirected to use the new alternative link road.
The MLA also met the Chief Engineer of PWD and officials and leaders from Senapati District Truck Owners' Association and Senapati District Truck Driver's Union who are also providing assistance in repairing the said route.
Notably, Losii Dikho had surveyed the alternate route three days ago, consulting with local leaders from Kedima and Chakhabama villages to facilitate the initiative.
Reportedly, the MLA has also secured the support of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to open the Mao-Chakhabama road to heavy vehicles from Manipur.
The MLA further underscored the issue's urgency in a letter to the Chief Secretary on Thursday and expressed gratitude to the officials of the State Government for their co-operation.
In light of the NH-2 roadblock caused by the landslide at Phesama, he recommended that the Manipur Government approach the Nagaland Government to maintain the 18-km road stretch from Chakhabama to the inter-State border.
The reopening of the alternate route has normalized the transportation of essential goods and provided much-needed relief to truck drivers who had been stuck for days without access to basic facilities and security.
