Binodini's play now in digital format

MK Binodini's popular play "Asangba Nongjabi" and its English translation "Crimson Rainclouds" are now freely available across the globe through a digital book hosted by The University of North Texas Digital Library, based in Denton, Texas.
The English translation of the Manipuri play along with its transliterations in Meitei Mayek, Roman and the original Bengali script are packed in L Somi Roy's "Binodini's Crimson Rainclouds: A Learning Module" .

The digital book is a project of Imasi: The Maharaj Kumari Binodini Devi Foundation and Computational Resource on South Asian Languages (CoRSAL) from the University of North Texas, Denton.
It is the third volume published by CoRSAL Occasional Publications Series with Sobhana Chelliah as series editor and Alexandra O'Neil as volume editor.
According to a press release, the book is an effort to combine language, literature, linguistics and the culture associated with Meiteilon to present it before a global audience through the internet.
It also comes with an audio track of the play featuring Kangbam Tomba, Yengkhom Roma, Keisham Rani and Wangkhem Lalit as the cast.
In its introduction, Professor Nathan Hill, Director, Trinity Centre for Asian Studies, has described the publication as "a landmark, both for the study of Manipuri literature and for Tibeto-Burman linguistics overall" .
"It makes available an important work by one of the great Manipuri authors and intellectuals of the 20th century, while simultaneously serving as an invaluable resource for the study of the Manipuri languages", said the Professor.
