Meritorious students of Govt schools felicitated

The Department of Education (S) organised an award distribution ceremony today in honour of Government school students who excelled in the 2024-25 High School Leaving Certificate Examination and Higher Secondary Examination.
The event was held at the auditorium of the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) at Palace Gate, Imphal.
Speaking as the chief guest, Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh shared his personal experiences of attending school award ceremonies while congratulating all the awardees.
He spoke about the pride and joy parents feel when their children succeed and highlighted the State's incentive scheme, introduced in 2018, which provides financial support to top-performing students.

Advising the students to consult their teachers whenever they have doubts, the Chief Secretary encouraged them to work hard, assuring that their efforts will never go to waste.
Emphasising that having more good students will lead to a better society, he urged the relevant authorities to work towards producing more excellent students.
He praised all the awardees, with special recognition for 45 students from schools listed under School Fagathansi Mission, a Government initiative aimed at strengthening the education sector.
Prashant Kumar urged all concerned to put in extra effort so that Government schools can match the standards of private schools in the coming years.
Education (S) Director Ng Bhogendra Meitei said that Manipur currently has 1,921 Government schools.
Saying that there, however, is a severe shortage of teaching staff at Government schools with only about 52 per cent of the required teaching staff employed, he added that 382 Government schools operate with just one teacher.
Education (S) Secretary N Praveen Singh also attended the award distribution ceremony among others.
The Incentive Award Ceremony honoured five State awardees: Aiena Naorem of Kakching Higher Secondary School, who secured 1st position in Commerce stream and 4 students of TG Higher Secondary School namely Sapam Langlel Chanu, who clinched 2nd position in Arts; Khwairakpam Crosia Devi, who bagged 10th position in Arts; Kethallina Maisnam, who secured 2nd position in Commerce; and Khwairakpam Jenita Devi, who achieved 5th position in Commerce.
Additionally, 58 district awardees were also honored, with 47 attending the main event and 11 participating virtually.
