Imphal, August 31 2025:
A notice for recruitment of 15 posts of Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education, Manipur University has invited trouble with a student body urging the university authorities to "follow proper rules".
"We will not allow the University and the Department of Teacher Education to conduct the recruitment until all discrepancies are removed and proper rules are followed," the Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) said.
The notification for the recruitment of 15 posts of Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education, MU was issued on May 23, 2025.While the minimum qualifications for the direct recruitment are said to be governed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) Regulations, 2014 and the 2017 amendment in the notification, many allied subjects "not listed" in the NCTE Regulations have been added as essential subjects/qualifica-tions, alleged the student body in a statement.
Further, the subjects/courses for which the posts of Assistant Professor are being recruited have not been mentioned causing confusion and casting doubt in the recruitment process, it claimed.
SSUM blamed the Head of Department of Teacher Education and the Vice-Chancellor of the Manipur University for the alleged discrepancies in the notification of the recruitment.
The NCTE Regulations have not been followed, and above this, the courses for which the posts are being recruited have not been mentioned clearly.
These discrepancies have raised serious concern and apprehension that it will never be a transparent, clean and fair recruitment, SSUM claimed.
The recruitment should be held following the NCTE regulations and relevant rules.
The authorities must also study the studentteacher ratio and recruit appropriate numbers of teachers, it added.
Unless the discrepancies are removed and proper rules are followed, the student body will not let the authorities hold the recruitment, SSUM asserted.
Meanwhile, the MEd courses which are expected to be opened in Manipur University should preferably be elementary and special courses, further said the student body.
