Repoll peaceful, 81 pc turnout recorded

The repoll at six polling stations in Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency ended peacefully under tight security today and registered a voter turnout of 81.16 per cent (till 5 pm) .
The polling stations which went to repoll were 44/20 Shangshak (A), 44/36 Ukhrul (A), 44/41 Ukhrul (D-1), 44/50 Ukhrul (F), 45/14 Chingai and 47/33 Oinam (A1) .
According to a report received from Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manipur, the voting began from 7 am and recorded a poll percentage of 81.16 per cent.
The voting hour was extended upto 5 pm (supposed to end at 4 pm) as the voting hour ended before some people could exercise their franchise.

As per our Ukhrul correspondent, the voter turnout at five of the six polling stations are 44/20 Shangshak A (53/.13 pc); 44/36 Ukhrul-A (79.73 pc); 44/42 Ukhrul D-1 (94.09 pc); 44/50 Ukhrul-F (79.18 pc) and 45/14 Chingai (86.28 pc) .
It is reported that the voting at 47/33 Oinam (A1) polling station under Karong Assembly segment in Senapati began at around 10.15 pm .
The EVMs of the six polling stations have been taken to the Strong Room of Ukhrul DC office.
Altogether 4 candidates viz Naga People's Front's (NPF) K Timothy Zimik, Congress's Alfred K Arthur and two Independent candidates Alyson Abonmai and S Kho John are contesting for the Outer seat reserved for the Scheduled Tribe.
The Lok Sabha election for the Outer Parliamentary Constituency (PC) was held in two phases on April 19 and April 26 .
15 Assembly segments in the Outer seat went to poll on April 19 along with 32 ACs of Inner PC while the remaining 13 Assembly segments voted on April 26 .
The second phase of voting in Outer Parliamentary Constituency was marred by violence and election malpractices at some polling stations following which the Election Commission declared the voting at six polling stations null and void and conducted the repoll today.
It may be mentioned that the Congress party had demanded repoll at 17 polling stations in Ukhrul AC and two in Phungyar AC .
