Kangpokpi, May 11 2015 :
Discontented over the failure of the State Government in addressing its charter of demands Kuki Students' Organization (KSO), Sadar Hills has imposed a seven day economic blockade from midnight of May 11 till May 18 midnight, our correspondent reports.
Speaking to media persons this evening at Kangpokpi, KSO Sadar Hills general secretary Lamcha Chongloi said due to various appeals from CSOs, KSO had to review its earlier decision to impose an indefinite blockade and shorten it to 7 days from May 11 midnight till May 18 midnight.
However, if the State Government fails to take up appropriate action during the seven days economic blockade, the organisation would be compelled to continue its protest till the charter of demands are fulfilled warned Lamcha Chongloi.
The charter of demands includes arrest of the persons involved in the Moidangpok incident who attempted to murder an innocent van driver; terminating the service of police personnel along with the in-charge commander who had forcefully asked the van (taxi) driver to leave Lalhoiphai village; to compensate the vandalised van with a new one; to compensate the medical expenses for the van driver who has been struggling for life and to shift the proposed site of Cultural University from L Tangnaum.
Vehemently condemning the counter bandh and blockade imposed by some valley based organizations, Lamcha Chongloi elucidated that KSO Sadar Hills has nothing to do with the land dispute between Moidangpok and Lalhoiphai village while adding that the students' body is concerned with only the criminal activities committed in front of law enforcement agencies.
He continued that the land disputes are rather in the hands of the Government or the Court.
Meanwhile, Kuki Inpi, Sadar Hills has also condemned the counter bandh and blockade.
N Sehjalien Gangte, secretary, Kuki Inpi, Sadar Hills said the agenda of those organizations involved in the counter bandh and blockade are to sidetrack the Moidangpok incident.
