Imphal, May 11 2015 :
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam announced on Monday that the State Congress would fight the coming Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls on the plank of unity and development.
The Deputy CM was speaking during the launching of election campaign for INC candidate Alar Thoitak contesting the ADC polls from 19-Dolang in Tamenglong district.
The programme was organized by Dolang Circle Congress Committee.
Stating that Congress has been in power in the six ADCs in the five hill districts, Gaikhangam was confident of winning maximum number of seats by INC in the coming polls, too.
He informed that six INC candidates had already been declared elected unopposed.
The Deputy CM, who is also the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), was also glad that all INC candidates are fighting the polls boldly against all odds and threat by underground organisations.
While calling upon everyone for making the scheduled polls free and fair and peaceful, the Deputy CM rejected intimidation and threats against candidates, which he said will bring nothing at all.
He also sought support for Alar Thoitak in the polls to be held for 144 ADC seats.
Meanwhile, Gaikhangam, who also holds Home portfolio, said the Chief Minister's Secretariat has not yet been informed about the proposed Senapati district visit by Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang tomorrow.
"I have learnt from unofficial reports that the Nagaland CM is visiting Senapati to address an election rally there.
The Government of the neighbouring State is yet to officially intimidate it to the Manipur Government," he said.
He cited that a Nagaland Chief Minister in the past had visited Manipur without giving any official information to the State Government.
"We always need prior official confirmation and information in this regard," he stated.
