Ukhrul, May 11 2015 :
Confident of forming the ADC after the election, the Naga Peoples' Front has promised the voters that it would ensure a tribal Act to protect the land rights, resource management, forest and equal development of the tribals.
Delivering the key note address at the flag hoisting and blessing ceremony function of NPF candidate K Dickson of 4 Nungbi constituency segment, president of NPF area unit 45-ST A/C, Chingai Peter clarified on the ruckus kicked up by the issuance of the party's tickets.
He added that the objective of the NPF is to launch a wing in Arunachal Pradesh and spelt out the reason why NPF is contesting the ADC election in Manipur.
There are numerous tribal issues in Manipur which are yet to be settled, he said and reminded that the Nagas of Manipur have been neglected for years.
Peter declared that the NPF will demand a full fledged ADC if it comes to power after the election.
It may be noted that the ADC in Manipur is merely local self governance, reminded Peter and questioned whether it has been granted the power to legislate.
This is a question which has been dogging the tribals for long, he added.
On the other hand during a consortium programme held at Alungtang community hall, general secretary of BJP Ukhrul district, Ngachan Raleng, who has been denied a BJP ticket expressed his unconditional support to NPF candidate Edmund Chiphang along with his supporters.
The former president of BJP Ukhrul district, Benjamin Kasomwoshi delving on the inefficiency of BJP leaders in Manipur said that tickets were issued in violation of the principles of the party.
Corruption was the criteria, he alleged.
He reminded that numerous loyal party workers have resigned from the party and added that some are now contesting as Independent candidates in the upcoming ADC election.
