Cops among three held in girls' hostel firing case

Two police constables and a driver have been detained by the police in connection with a firing incident near the Girls' Hostel of Churachandpur Medical College around 2:40 am on Thursday, which raised fresh concerns about the law and order situation in Churachandpur district.
According to a police source, the three are currently in police custody in connection with the incident.
Providing details, the source stated that around 8 am on April 24, a written complaint was lodged by the commander of G/129 Battalion CRPF with the officer-in-charge of Churachandpur police station, stating that at about 2:40 am, a white car travelling- at high speed from the direction of Churachandpur Government College fired three rounds in the air while passing the Churachandpur Medical College, near the G/129 Bn CRPF outpost set up at the Old DC Guest House.
In response, the sentry on duty at the main gate of the outpost fired a single round in the air.
Following the incident, the detachment commander of 129 Bn, along with the Quick Action Team (QAT), immediately rushed to the scene and conducted cordon and search operation in the surrounding area, along with establishing mobile check posts, and conveyed about the incident to the District Police Control Room and subsequently to the Churachandpur SP .
In follow up action, one Mangkholun Haokip (33), son of Lunkhojam Haokip of Thingjabong village, Churachandpur, was detained from T Bangla area, and subsequently arrested in the presence of witnesses.
During on-the-spot interrogation, Mangkholun admitted his involvement and agreed to surrender the weapon used in the offence.
Further search led to the recovery of a 9mm SIG SAUER pistol (serial number 58C3873S5), along with a magazine and three rounds, from his residence.
Mangkholun also disclosed that two police constables, allegedly under the influence of liquor, fired several rounds in the air.
Meanwhile, the SP confirmed that Mangkholun (driver) and the two police constables are currently in custody.
He also clarified that there is no evidence implicating sub-inspector Seikhotinlal in the case.
