Assam Rifles conducts skill workshop, tribute event

Assam Rifles conducted a skill development workshop on candle making for Shalluk villagers in Chandel district, during which 20 individuals were trained on candle making, a skill that offers Opportunities for creative expression and entrepreneurship, According to PRO IGAR (S), the workshop focused on empowering women by equipping them with the necessary tools to explore small-scale business ventures and contribute to their household income.
Participants expressed enthusiasm about utilising their newly acquired skills to establish small enterprises, with many already envisioning opportunities to supply handmade candles for local markets and festivals.
The workshop emphasised the importance of self-employment as a means of economic uplift and encouraged participants to consider other small-scale industries, added the PRO in a release.
On the other-hand, Assam Rifles conducted a wreath-laying ceremony on Tuesday to honour the supreme sacrifice of rifleman RP Dwivedi, who laid down his life during 'Operation Hifazat' in Sehlon area, Manipur, on November 17, 2015 .
During a long-range patrol, RP Dwivedi displayed extraordinary courage in a fierce firefight with militants.
Despite sustaining critical injuries, he continued to deliver intense and effective fire, ensuring the safety of his comrades and embodying unparalleled courage and dedication to duty, said the PRO in another release, adding that the ceremony was attended by over 50 personnel, including officers, junior commissioned officers, and other ranks, who paid heartfelt tributes at the War Memorial.
Additionally, the Assam Rifles organised another wreath-laying ceremony in Moreh, Tengnoupal district, to commemorate the sacrifice of rifleman Man Singh Bisht.
This event marked his ultimate sacrifice during the Indo-China War on November 19, 1962, in Tawang (NEFA), now Arunachal Pradesh.
The ceremony commenced with wreath-laying followed by a motivational address recounting the valiant story of rifleman Bisht.
200 personnel of Assam Rifles participated in paying their respects and laying wreaths while according a guard of honour to the fallen hero, according to the PRO.
