Farmers' training programme kicks off

Imphal, April 26 2025:
A 8-day Farmers' Training Programme on "Advances in Pulse Production Technologies for Strengthening Food and Nutritional Security" kicked off today at the College of Agriculture (COA), Iroisemba, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
The programme organised by the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Rabi Pulses, CAU, Imphal, aims to equip local formers with the latest knowledge and practical skills to enhance pulse production, thereby contributing to improved food and nutritional security in the region.
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Prof Indira Sarangthem, Dean, COA and Director of Instruction, CAU, Imphal; Prof L Nabachandra Singh, Department of Agronomy, COA, Iroisemba and Prof N Barajendra Singh, Department of Genetics & Plant Breeding, COA, Iroisemba.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr N Anando Singh, Training Course Director and Scientist Incharge, AICRP on Rabi Pulses, CAU, Imphal, highlighted the significance of pulses in the NE Region and emphasized the need for capacity building among formers.
Prof Indira Sarangthem stressed the importance of pulses in addressing nutritional deficiencies and advocated for the integration of modem agronomic practices with indigenous knowledge to promote pulse cultivation in the NEH Region.
Thirty-one enthusiastic farmers from four districts viz Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, and Bishnupur will actively participate in the intensive training programme.
