Assam Rifles organises Fit India outreach across Manipur

Imp/Kak/Ukl/Kam, May 24 2026: In line with the national vision of the Fit India Movement, Assam Rifles conducted a series of fitness and civic outreach activities across several districts of Manipur on May 24, promoting physical wellness, environmental awareness and civil-military harmony.

According to IGAR (South), Assam Rifles as part of the initiative organised the 75th edition of "Sundays on Cycle" with a cycle rally from Kakching district to the historic Khongjom War Memorial in Thoubal district.

Around 70 cyclists participated in the rally, including 43 personnel from Assam Rifles and the Border Security Force along with local youth and civilians.

Pedalling through scenic stretches, participants vibrant with patriotic fervour paid a solemn homage to the legendary Manipuri warriors of the 1891 Anglo-Manipur War, successfully reinforcing community solidarity and regional legacy.

At Keithelmanbi Garrison in Imphal West district, a "Run for Fun and Sunday on Cycle" programme was organised with the participation of 206 troops and officials, seven women, 30 children and 35 families.

The programme concluded with an interactive gathering aimed at promoting environmental awareness and strengthening camaraderie.

In Tengnoupal district, a Fit India drive was held at the IB Helipad in Moreh, involving 77 troops and officials along with 17 local civilians in endurance and fitness activities.

Similarly, Mantripukhri Garrison in Imphal East district organised an early morning yoga session involving 75 families, including a lady medical officer, followed by a cycling event with participation from 95 troops and officials and 25 children.

Fitness and wellness activities were also carried out in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, where yoga, breathing exercises and meditation sessions were organised at Somsai, different Company Operating Bases and at the border village of Nampisha.

Troops, villagers, women and children actively participated in the programmes.

The outreach activities concluded with a five-kilometre "Run for Fun" at Shangshak in Ukhrul district, where 20 troops and officials joined 27 local villagers in the event.

Through the series of programmes, Assam Rifles sought to promote physical fitness, preserve historical legacy and strengthen ties with local communities across the State.
