Senapati, March 22 2025:
Under the initiative of the Senapati district administration, a joint cleanliness drive was conducted along the Senapati River as part of the 'Clean Senapati River Campaign' on Saturday.
The drive covered a stretch of around 8 kilometres, extending from the Mt Everest College parking area to Kathikho Karong, under the theme 'Keep it Clean, Keep it Flowing'.
The campaign was led by Senapati DC Mamoni Doley, and supported by ADM/ADC Rang David Kung, along with ADC/CEO Adahrii Maheo.
The extensive cleaning operation targeted the densely populated areas across the Senapati headquarters, ensuring a thorough removal of waste and pollutants from the river.

For effective execution, the river stretch was divided into five zones, each overseen by senior officials including S Lunguiba Thangal, SDO, Purul; Sheveine, SDO, Tadubi; Reikimdaar Khaling, SDO, Paomata & Willong; Panii James, SDO, Phaibung Chillivai; and Ningreingam Leisan, ADM, Mao.
Each zone was assigned a dedicated team comprising government departments, civil society organisations, and student bodies, including school and college students.
These teams were responsible for the collection and disposal of accumulated waste along the riverbanks.
Around 2,000 individuals participated in the cleanliness drive, and an estimated 40 tonnes of mixed waste was collected.
The collected waste was transported and disposed of at designated sites by the Karong Senapati Town Committee.
Following the cleanup, bleaching powder was applied to the river water as a disinfectant to enhance sanitation.
The drive is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, March 25, with a specific focus on identified 'black spots' - areas with significant waste accumulation.
As part of the campaign, a prior physical survey conducted in February 2025, led by the ADM Senapati, CEO/ADC Senapati, Karong Senapati Town Committee (KSTC), and Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA), identified toilets, pigsties, and other structures that were directly discharging waste into the river.
During this survey, strict warnings were issued against the indiscriminate disposal of waste into the waterway.
The Clean Senapati River Campaign is a key initiative of the Senapati District Administration, aimed at restoring and preserving the Senapati River - a vital resource for the community.
The campaign - a collaborative efforts of the district administration, Autonomous District Council, Karong Senapati Town Committee, CSOs, village and community leaders, and volunteers - seeks to raise public awareness, engage local communities, and promote collective action to combat pollution and protect the river ecosystem.
