Pambei-led UNLF pays tributes to revolutionaries

The Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) commemorated its 8th Athoubasinggi Ningshing Numit on Sunday to remember Front leaders, revolutionaries, sympathisers and supporters who laid down their lives during the course of liberation movement.
According to a statement issued by publicity and education director Charairongba Thokchom, UNLF started a movement from year the 1964 to restore the sovereignty of Manipur lost after India annexed it in the year 1949.During the course of people's liberation movement since 1964, the party lost more than 380 leaders and cadres.
However, UNLF will never forget the supreme sacrifices made by them for the motherland, affirmed the statement, adding that observance of Athoubasinggi Ningshing Numit strengthens the Front's resolve to realise dreams of the martyred revolutionaries, to restore the sovereignty of Manipur.
The UNLF statement further said that 8th Athoubasinggi Ningshing Numit observance functions were held widely including at its general headquarters, brigades and battalions of UNLF's armed wing - Manipur People's Army (MPA).
The solemn functions were attended by party's central committee members led by acting chairman and MPA fighters.
The statement further said that the 'Observation Committee' formed by families of the martyred revolutionaries also commemorated Athoubasinggi Ningshing Numit at Nongpok Sanjenbam in Imphal East district wherein the attendees paid rich tributes to those who laid down their lives for the cause of the motherland.
Committee chairperson Maibam Ningthempishak told media persons on the sidelines of the observance function that the tribute-paying ceremony was organised in honour of those who laid down their lives for the motherland.
Due to the ongoing crisis in the state, the ceremony could not be held in a meaningful manner this year but the committee is planning for a befitting tribute event from next year onwards with the construction of a memorial complex atop Khudengshabi hill.
The observance was marked with two-minute silence and floral tributes to portraits of the martyrs.
