Imphal, April 16 2025:
At-least two Tangkhul organisations called upon authorities concerned to entrust construction of the steel truss bridge over the Maklang River, which would connect south and east of Kamjong, to the work agency which bagged the project and not by any unauthorised contractors.
In a release, Kasom Khullen Sub-Division Development Association (KKSDDA) highlighted importance of the steel truss bridge in improving connectivity and shorten the distance between southern and eastern regions of Kamjong district as well as for residents in border areas.
Despite emphasis by the government for uniform development and personal initiative by Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing to realise the objective, allegations levelled against the people's representative have once again exposed a pattern of aggression and opportunism, said the Association, referring to the MLA's recent inspection visit during which it came to light that an unauthorised contractor was found executing the bridge project.
The engagement of the sub contractor who has no work experience related to bridge construction constitutes a direct threat to the development of Kasom Khullen sub-division in particular and Kamjong district in general, KKSDDA claimed while reiterating its demand that construction of the said structure should be handled by the agency, which was awarded the project and not by any unauthorised contractors.
Similarly, Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang also appealed to the government to closely monitor construction of the Steel Truss Bridge.
Along with batting for entrusting execution of mega projects to experienced and qualified contractors or work agencies, it pointed out that bridge construction should be of high quality.
