Imphal, March 07 2024:
Majority of the students, who have opted for examination venues for the Common University Entrance Test (.CUET)-Post Graduate outside the state, are likely to miss the test, said Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) .
In a press meet held at its Kwakeithel office Thursday afternoon, DESAM secretary general Nongthombam Thoithoiba opined that students from Manipur are in an unfavourable condition as many of them been provided exam centres for CUET-PG Entrance Test, scheduled on March 11, outside the state.
As such, he urged the chief minister and the education minister to look into the matter and see to the reallocation of the examination centres at suitable, safer areas of the valley in the state.
He further urged the union minister for education to address plight of the student candidates.
Thoithoiba continued that students have to shell out money not only for a round-trip flight ticket but also keep the hotel and other expenditures in mind just for appearing an entrance examination.
As such, many students who are affected by the prevailing violence have to give up their dream of pursuing further studies due to lack of money.
The situation is even dire for students staying in relief camps, it noted.
While DESAM lauds the plan to conduct CUET, it would be better if the process is modified with regard to examination centres in the interest of the affected students, he stressed.
