Imphal, July 01 2025:
The Government of India (Gol) had made numerous promises to restore peace and normalcy in the state through resolving the crisis lingering for over years but is yet to translate into action any of the promises made, stated United Committee Manipur (UCM) former president Sunil Karam.
Speaking at the 25th foundation day of Manipur Peace and Integrity (MAPI) Council celebrated Tuesday at Manipur Press Club, Sunil Karam expressed remorse that some people are unwilling to accept the facts/points raised by CSOs that the conflict between the Meeteis and Kukis is a proxy war orchestrated by the government of India to suppress the Meetei community.
The crisis would not end anytime due to presence of certain individuals who are reaping dividends from the unrest situation, he alleged.
According to Sunil Karam the conflict will end once Union minister Amit Shah speaks the truth.
Noting insistency in the remarks of Amit Shah since outbreak of the conflict on May 3, 2023, he also accused the BJP government at the Centre of lacking seriousness and commitment to end the conflict.
The Centre made numerous promises to resolve the issue but there has been no concrete action to translate any of the promises made, Sunil reiterated.
Regarding the event, MAPI Council general secretary Moirangthem Neta said the council was formed by clubs of Imphal East district in the wake of the June 18 uprising of 2001 to work collectively in issues concerning the state and maintain peace and harmony among different communities by sorting out differences at the earliest possible.
The Council also advocates message of unity, peace and harmony in far flung hill and valley areas of the state, he said adding that both the Centre and President's Rule administration must bring an end to the ongoing crisis to end suffering of the people.
The event was attended by MAPI Council vice president Thangjam Samananda, Tharon Village Development Authority member Tabiyang Moita, Indigenous Minority of Manipur (IMOM) president Rengeson Thanga and Tuisenpghai village chief Sh Nishosel Kharam as presidium members while UPF advisor Leishangthem Jadumani was resource person of the event.
