Bishnupur, March 28 2025:
In line with the Peace Committee Kangleipak's initiative to institute memorial stones and statues of martyrs, the statue of 'martyr' Khumanthem Kenedy - who was killed in an attack on village volunteers by Kuki militants - was unveiled at Wangoo Laingoubi on Friday.
Kenedy, a village Volunteer, lost his life in the attack at Wangoo Laingoubi Awang Leikai on May 28, 2023 .
Speaking at the event, UNLF former chairman RK Sanayaima, called Meeteis as peace-loving people who desire to live harmoniously by supporting one another.
He, however, stated the Meeteis will not remain silent if war is waged against them by adversary elements and urged the people to acknowledge that "we are currently living in a time of despair and hopelessness" .

However, Meeteis cannot accept any outsiders attempting to claim ownership of the state, he affirmed.
Sanayaima also maintained that the delimitation exercise in the state must be carried after proper and intensive investigation, while noting that many illegal immigrants from Myanmar are currently residing in several interior parts of the state.
"If the delimitation exercise is conducted before these illegal immigrants are sent back, some areas of the valley will likely be merged into the hills," he cautioned.
The function organised by Peace Committee Kangleipak was also attended by former ICHAM president N Rajendra, committee president Rajesh Meitei, and members of the committee's women wing among others.
