24-hr strike begins to protest custodial death

Imphal, April 24 2025:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the Custodial Death of Khoisnam Sanajaoba alias Ibungo, has announced a 24-hour statewide general strike with effect from Thursday midnight.
In a statement issued late on Wednesday evening, the JAC declared that the strike has been called to protest alleged custodial death of Sanajaoba (27), a village volunteer from Imphal East district.
According to the JAC Sanajaoba was arrested by commando personnel of Imphal East district on March 31 and brought to JNIMS hospital in a critical condition on April 13 .
He passed away on the same night of admission.
It may, be mentioned that to denounce the alleged custodial death, the JAC had organised sit-in protests, rallies in Imphal East, and submitted an ultimatum to the Governor on April 17, demanding justice.
Meanwhile, the JAC announced that essential services such as medical care, water supply, media, electricity, and religious events would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
