Smart farming training on exotic fruits held in Senapati

A one-day training and awareness programme on "Smart Farming with Exotic Fruits: Blueberry, Avocado & Kiwi Plantation" was conducted on Saturday at the Mao Poumai Catholic Women's Hall, Senapati.
The event also witnessed the distribution of planting materials under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) - CAFETERIA scheme for the year 2023-24 (second instalment) .
Organised by the office of the District Officer, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Senapati, under the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Manipur, the programme aimed to promote diversified and sustainable agricultural practices among local farmers.
According to a press release from the DO (H&SC) office, the event was attended by PF Lophro, SDO Tadubi, as chief guest.
VD Napoleon Pou, deputy director of Agriculture (Soil Conservation), RPF Mao, attended as guest of honour, while Athaipu Palmei presided over the function.
More than 50 farmers from various villages across the district - including Mao Song Song, Rabunamei, Makuilongdi, Sorbung, and Chilivai Phaibung - participated in the training.
As part of the initiative, a range of planting materials including tree bean saplings, orange saplings, ginger rhizomes, and NPK fertilisers were distributed to the attendees.
In her keynote address, PF Lophro encouraged farmers to fully utilise the schemes made available by the government.
He also unveiled three informative pamphlets designed to guide them towards modern and profitable agricultural practices.
VD Napoleon Pou highlighted the importance of adopting smart farming technologies to enhance the productivity and quality of fruit and vegetable cultivation in the region.
Presiding over the programme, Athaipu Palmei outlined the objectives and benefits of the RKVY scheme, emphasising its role in empowering the farming community of the district.
Among other dignitaries present at the event included R Saveina, assistant agriculture officer, and technical staff from the District Horticulture and Soil Conservation Office, Senapati.
The training featured expert sessions by Dr Star Luikham and NG Ngaorai, who provided valuable insights into Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for cultivating exotic fruits.
The participants expressed strong interest in adopting the recom mended practices to improve their farming techniques and boost income through smart and sustainable methods.
