Imphal, August 11 2025:
Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with Kamjong District Federation of Large Area Multipurpose Society (LAMPS Limited), organised a one-day workshop on "Leadership Development Programme for Women in Cooperative Societies" at Phungyar village community hall in Kamjong district on Monday.
The event, sponsored by MSCW, aims to enhance leadership skills, capabilities, and cooperative management among women leaders in community organisations, both current and future, with focus on enabling the effective and efficient completion of work toward shared goals.
The workshop was attended by MSCW chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, members T Chuongsin Koireng and SK Sophia Moyon, and Kamjong District Federation of LAMPS Limited president Nepolean Shaiza as presidium members.

Resource persons included relief and disaster management senior consultant Grace Jajo, ICM Imphal director-in-charge Kh Rangamlian Aimol, and Central Bank of India's Vareichon Ruivah.
Delivering the keynote address, MSCW member Chuongsin underscored the importance of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at the grassroots level, pointing out that learning about and understanding SHGs enables communities to self-organise and manage effectively, improving both family economics and social participation.
Well-informed women are better equipped to make sound decisions, which in turn benefits the entire community, she said.
In her address, chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham highlighted that cooperatives are built on shared responsibility, trust, and support, rather than being purely financial institutions.
She observed that qualities such as empathy, resilience, and cooperation, often associated with women, are integral to the cooperative movement, yet women remain underrepresented in leadership roles.
"Being a good leader requires vision, accountability, and the courage to act in the group's best interest," she said, adding that women leaders bring perspectives that strengthen sustainability, innovation, inclusion, and diversity.
During the technical session Kh Rangamlian Aimol provided insights into the New Cooperative Policy 2025, aimed at fostering the growth of cooperative societies, Grace Jajo on role of women in disaster risk reduction and management, emphasising skill enhancement to ensure women can lead and support their communities during crises and Vareichon Ruivah on financial literacy and management, equipping participants with practical tools to manage resources effectively.
The programme concluded with an interactive session between participants and resource persons.
More than 120 participants attended the workshop, making it both informative and impactful for women in cooperative societies across Kamjong, a statement issued by MSCW said.
