Imphal, May 27 2025:
A three-month UN-ited Family Skills Programme organised by Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) under the aegis of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Regional Office for South Asia, concluded on Tuesday with the valedictory function held at Hotel Imphal.
The UN-ited Family Skills Programme is a global initiative developed by UNODC to, strengthen family bonds and reduce substance use, violence, and other risky behaviours among children and adolescents.
Designed as a universal family skills programme, it specifically targets families in economically underdeveloped countries, aiming to improve parenting practices, child behaviour, and overall family interactions, while addressing stress and risk factors related to substance abuse.
Speaking at the closing and certificate distribution ceremony, CADA general secretary Takhellambam Geetchandra Meitei explained that the programme is being implemented in Manipur following its selection among the states most severely affected by drug-related issues, including Assam.
"Manipur is geographically close to the Golden Triangle and has been significantly impacted by the drug menace," he said, adding that the programme has been introduced to empower families and help the youth stay away from drugs, starting at the household level.
Geetchandra further stated that a research study has been initiated following the completion of the programme to assess its societal impact, the findings of which are expected to be published by July or August this year.
The function was also attended by UNODC Regional Office South Asia criminal justice expert Seema Joshi Arya and CADA president Hijam Priyokumar.
