Science topper aims to serve humanity as doctor

Imphal, April 25 2025:
Riya Khwairakpam, a student of Comet School, Changangei Ucheckon, who secured the first position in the Science stream of the Higher Secondary Examination (HSE) 2025 conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM), with an impressive score of 490 out of 500 marks, wants to become a doctor and serve humanity.
The youngest daughter of Khwairakpam Surchand and Sougrakpam Lukamani, Riya originally hails from Ithai Bazar but her family is now settled at Langthabal Kunja.
She secured letter marks in all six subjects - English, Manipuri, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, Riya confided that she has always aspired to become a doctor, and her ambition grew stronger during the COVID-19 pandemic when she became more aware of the vital role played by medical professionals.
Her dream is to serve humanity through the medical profession.
While she was confident of securing a position, Riya admitted she did not expect to top the Science stream.
Riya said she did not take any extraordinary measures to claim the top spot but focused on revising what was taught in school.
She took private tuition, studied regularly, and followed a consistent routine, though without a fixed number of study hours.
She prefers sleeping early and waking up early to keep her routine disciplined.
Her mother, Lukamani, shared that Riya had secured the 12th position in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) 2023 conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM), and the family believed she would emerge among the top position holders again though not the first rank.
