Governor chairs review meet on prisons, MPCP

Imphal, July 16 2025:
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, chaired a review meeting on Wednesday at the conference hall of Raj Bhavan, here, to assess condition of the prison infrastructure and administration across the state.
In a release, PRO Raj Bhavan informed that the meeting was attended by the chief secretary PK Singh, DGP Rajiv Singh, director general of prisons, inspector general of prisons, and other senior officials.
During the meeting, IG (Prisons) highlighted the current state of jails, the deteriorating infrastructure of the two main functional jails in the state and the challenges faced by six temporary jails across various districts.
The IG also brought to the Governor's attention the issue of pending staff recruitments.
The Governor advised a number of measures to address infrastructural and administrative shortcomings, while assuring timely intervention and collaborative efforts among departments concerned to ensure better conditions, security, and efficiency within the prison system.
He also directed the officials that necessary steps should be taken to resolve the existing challenges and strengthen the prison infrastructure, it stated.
The Governor also chaired a meeting with senior officials of the Planning Department to assess the progress and functioning of the Manipur Projects Coordination Portal (MPCP) - a digital initiative aimed at enhancing inter-departmental coordination for infrastructure and development projects across the state.
The officials presented a detailed overview of the portal's objectives and functionalities.
They informed the Governor that major executing departments such as the PWD, PHED, MSPDCL, MSPCL, MAHUD, Police, district administration, and the IT Department will be using the portal to coordinate projects efficiently.
The key focus of the platform is to ensure proper planning and avoid delays.
The Governor commended the initiative as a step toward more transparent, accountable, and efficient governance.
He advised continued efforts to improve the system and ensure full departmental participation for timely and effective project execution across the state, informed the release.
