UG cadres netted; arms, phones, vehicles recovered

Imphal, April 16 2025:
Central and state forces apprehended cadres of various underground organisations involved in extortion and other anti-social activities across the state.
According to a statement from the police control room, four active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) - Apunba City Meitei faction - were arrested on Tuesday from Salungpham Mamang Leikai under Heirok police station in Thoubal district.
The arrested individuals, identified as Md Saruk Khan (34), Sangomsumbam Akhter Ahamed (29), Konjengbam Kumarjit Singh (41), and Laishram Joymangol Singh (47), were allegedly extorting money from brickfields, sawmills, banks, hospitals, schools, colleges, petrol pumps, shops, stone crushers, and contractors operating in the district.
Security personnel recovered a .32 pistol with magazine and three rounds, three 36 HE hand grenades, five mobile handsets, a four-wheeler, and two two-wheelers from their possession.
The same day three members of the Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA) were arrested by police from Waithou Chiru in Imphal East district.
The arrested individuals - Leishungbam Lenin Singh (31), Yumkhaibam Lukhoi Singh (32), and Sagolsem Dinesh Singh (25) - were reportedly involved in extorting from educational institutions in Yairipok area.
Police seized three mobile phones, a two-wheeler, and other miscellaneous items from them.
In a separate operation, a cadre of KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) group was apprehended from a rented house at Kombirei Housing Complex under Lamphel PS in Imphal West district.
The arrested individual, identified as Salam Sadananda Singh alias Igocha alias Pari (31), was allegedly involved in serving monetary demands and threats to the Imphal denizes.
One mobile handset and an Aadhaar card were recovered during the operation.
Meanwhile, on Monday, central forces apprehended three cadres of the Koireng-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) from the general area of Border Pillar 81, Sub Pillar 3, under Moreh PS in Tengnoupal district.
The arrested persons have been identified as Ningombam Shyam Singh (32), Chingangbam John son Meitei alias Angomcha Meitei (30), and Md Sohel Khan (25) .
