Breastfeeding Week commences at Raj Medicity

Raj Medicity, a leading healthcare institution, marked the commencement of World Breastfeeding Week-2023 with a grand inaugural function on Wednesday at its multipurpose hall, North AOC.
The inaugural function of the observance organised by Raj Medicity in collaboration with Breastfeeding Promotion Alliance of Manipur (BPAM) was attended by Medicity chairman cum managing director Haobijam Rajen Singh as chief guest and BPAM president Dr Aribam Ibotombi Sharma as president while Imphal Hospital paediatrician Dr Shyamkumar Laishram, ACME Hospital managing director Dr Elangbam James and JNIMS Paediatrics Department head professor N Kameshore Singh as guests of honour.
As part of the event, paediatrician Dr L Radhapyari Devi of RIMS talked 'Importance and Benefits of Breastfeeding' while Dr Elangbam James emphasised on the necessity for proper counselling to patients and their families regarding the significance of breastfeeding.
In his address, Professor N Kameshore Singh expressed concern over the decline in breastfeeding practice as indicated by recent data and appealed for increased awareness on its numerous advantages.
Meanwhile, Dr Shyamkumar urged private institutions to extend maternity leave for six months and facilitate establishment of feeding rooms at workplaces.
In his speech, Haobijam Rajen lauded the efforts of BPAM in increasing awareness and advocacy for breastfeeding among the people of Manipur.
He declared that Raj Medicity would offer five-month maternity leave with pay to all staff contrary to the earlier practice of only three months.
