Imphal, September 01 2021:
Patsoi MLA Ak Mirabai has said that the state government should upgrade schools particularly higher secondary institutions by adding necessary infrastructure so that more students could be accommodated and no students drop out due to failure to get admission.
Students of class X to XII all over the country were promoted to the next classes due to COVID-19 pandemic and the same policy was adopted in the state too.
However, the worrying factor for Manipur is that many students would not get admission owing to high pass percentage and static number of higher secondary schools, Mirabai said during a development related meet held at Tera Tongbram Leikai under Patsoi assembly constituency on Wednesday.
According to Mirabai, the state had 57 higher secondary schools until recently but nine high schools were upgraded to higher secondary level thus taking the total number of higher secondary schools to 66.On average, around 24-25,000 students clear class X examination every year.
However, around 48,000 students will seek admission for class XI this year due to the mass promotion.
Apart from this, students seeking admission in other states have reduced significantly this year due to COVID-19 pandemic and this has created a big problem in admission and many students fear of drop out if they do not get admission, she said and appealed to the government to ensure upgrade of basic infrastructure of the 66 higher secondary schools so that each schools could accommodate 100 each additional students than the existing capacity.
Meanwhile, Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Kamjong district conveyed happiness over the conversion of Kamjong High School into Kamjong Higher Secondary School.
Lalboi Haokip, president KSO Kamjong, said that the Government of Manipur in its continuous effort to improve the literacy rate in the state has taken up various measures of which upgrade of Kamjong High School is one among them.
"On behalf of the people of Kamjong, particularly the student community, we convey our sincere gratitude to our Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Education Minister S Rajen Singh, HAC Chairman, and Phungyar AC MLA Leishiyo Keishihg, DC Kamjong District, Worshang Hungyo for upgrading Kamjong High School to Higher Secondary in the larger interest of the citizens of the area," he added.
The KSO Kamjong president further said, "While endorsing the steps taken up by the government, we urge the Government of Manipur to continue providing necessary infrastructure and teaching staff to make the institution fully functional and equivalent to other educational institutions in the state".
