Imphal, March 28 2025:
Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M), the apex body of the Liangmai Naga tribe, has adopted a 'No Tax payment stance' to the GPRN/NSCN-IM in Manipur.
A declaration issued by LNC-M president R Machundoubou asserted that Maremei is Liangmai village with well-defined traditional boundaries that had existed since time immemorial.
As per the Liangmai customary law, land is communally owned and no individual has the authority to sell or enter into a Compromise Deed or Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) within the territory of Maremei, it explained.
However, despite this fundamental principle, the GPRN secretariat 'Kilo Affairs', through its orders acted in contravention of the Liangmai Naga customary and traditional laws, which was nothing but an outrageous and blatant attempt to obliterate the existence of the undisputed Liangmai traditional village from Senapati areas, it denounced.
Moreover, RK Remping unlawfully colluded with Kuki Taphou chief Lengkhomang Chongloi on May 21, 2022, signing a "Compromise Deed" and a "Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)" without the consent of the Maremei village authority and its people.
Furthermore, on January 10, 2025, 11 houses belonging to innocent Maremei villagers in Senapati district were vandalised.
Subsequently, on January 12, cadres of the NSCN-IM (Maram-Thangal region) launched a brutal attack, committing sexual harassment against six innocent women, it alleged, adding that the heinous act was carried out in collusion with RK Remping and his grandsons, RK Roland and RK Roshan of Senapati district.
In response to these grave injustices, the house unanimously resolved in the annual assembly of Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur that due to subjugation by the NSCN-IM/GPRN and distrust towards the Liangmai people, they are left with no choice but to protect their rights and ancestral land.
Consequent to the aforementioned activities of the GPRN amounting to undermining existence of Maremai village, the LNC has been compelled to adopt a 'No Tax payment stance' to GPRN/NSCN-IM in Manipur, effective from on March 25, 2025, at Ariang Khunkhu village, Kangpokpi district until all the arbitrary and biased orders are withdrawn by the 'Kilo ministry' .
"The GPRN has not only failed to protect Liangmai ancestral land but has also actively supported external elements, particularly the Kukis in trespassing into Liangmai territory, compromising Liangmai land and disregarding the rights and security of the Liangmai community.
The Liangmai Naga Council stands firmly committed to defending the ancestral land, identity, and dignity of the Liangmai people," the declaration added.
