Service of nurses lauded

Dr Chambo Gonmei, Director of Health Services has lauded the contribution of nurses and emphasized the need to provide them safe workplaces, fair pay and opportunities to grow.
He made the remark during the district-level observation of International Nurses Day held yesterday at Bethesda Chapel, Muolvaiphei, Churachandpur, under the theme "Our Nurses-Our Future: Caring for Nurses strengthens economies".
It may be noted that International Nurses Day marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modem nursing.
The event was jointly organised by GNM School of Nursing, Churachandpur, Bethesda College of Nursing, Bethesda School of Nursing and Tunnu School of Nursing highlighting the pivotal role of nurses in shaping healthcare and reducing the economic burden of illness.
The celebration was graced by Dr T Vanlalkungi, Chief Medical Officer, Churachandpur; Dr Tinglonlei Thangluai, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital; Dr Kholi Sania Monica, District Family Welfare Officer and Esther Ninglianching, Nursing Superintendent, District Hospital, Churachandpur.
The lamp lighting ceremony was led by Grace Rochanhlu, Principal, Bethesda College of Nursing.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Chambo Gonmei applauded the selfless service and unwavering dedication of nurses for the sick and those in need.
He urged them to continue providing highest quality healthcare services in the underserved and remotest region of the State.
Underscoring the importance of emulating Florence Nightingale, popularly known as the "The Lady with the Lamp", he put stress not only on serving the sick but also to add innovation when working.
He said nurses should be provided opportunities to grow so that they can give their best service to the patients.
Other speakers at the event also emphasized the important role of nurses calling them a bridge between science and compassion.
Students from different nursing schools presented cultural items before the gathering and concluded with a skit depicting the evolution and introduction of modem nursing through Florence Nightingale.
The event also saw the attendance of faculty members and students of the three nursing schools.
