RIMS launches offline RCI-CRE programme

The Bachelor in Audi ology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) unit under Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Department of ENT launched a two-day Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI)-accredited Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) programme on 'Dysphagia Updates in Speech-Language Pathology Services (SLPS)' at RIMS Banting Hall on Wednesday.
In a release, RIMS PRO informed that the event was inaugurated by RIMS director professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma as chief guest, in the presence of RIMS Hospital medical superintendent professor N Sanjib Singh, dean (academics) professor Laishram Rajesh Singh, Otorhinolaryngology head professor Sudhiranjan Th, SAHS, Langol Otorhinolaryngology head professor H Priyosakhi Devi, and AYJNISHD (D), Kolkata Audiology & Speech Language Pathology lecturer & in-charge Dr Indranil Chatterjee.
Speaking on the occasion, the RIMS director assured that efforts would be made to address BASLP's faculty and infrastructure gaps, including appointing regular staff and securing a separate building, while highlighting RIMS as one of the few institutes sustaining such a programme.
Noting dysphagia's growing relevance, he underscored the CRE's role in bridging research and clinical practice and urged active participation to enhance collaboration and patient care.
During the programme, resource persons delivered talks on topics including 'Anatomy & Physiology of Swallowing , 'Neurological Dysphagia and Neurodegulutology in Critical Care', 'Neurological Dysphagia: Recent Standards of Assessment and Management', 'Paediatric Swallowing Disorders: Trends in SLP Practice' and 'Swallowing Disorders: Evidence-Based Practice'.
The release continued that faculty members, practitioners, and BASLP students actively participated, in line with the RCI's mandate for ongoing professional development.
The ENT Department reaffirmed its commitment to hosting similar programmes to strengthen rehabilitation services in the region.
In a separate event, professor G Sunil inaugurated the Casualty Triage Area at the RIMS Casualty Block, in the presence of MS professor N Sanjib Singh, heads of departments, faculty members, nursing officials, and other staff of RIMS .
