RIMS hosts CME on hemophilia update 2025

A Continuing Medical Education (CME) entitled 'Hemophilia Update 2025' was held Saturday at the Jubilee hall of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
The CME on Hemophilia, jointly organised by the department of Transfusion Medicine and department of Medicine, RIMS in coordination with Hemophilia Society Imphal chapter, was attended by RIMS director professor Sunil Kumar as chief guest, former head of RIMS department of Transmission Medicine professor A Meinya Singh' as president and RIMS dean (academic) professor L Rajesh Singh and State Blood Cell, NHM Manipur SNO Dr L Dayalaxmi Devi as guests of honour.
As chief guest at the programme, RIMS director professor Sunil Kumar emphasised the urgent need to raise awareness and improve diagnosis of hemophilia, noting that only 64 cases have been identified so far in Manipur.
Despite its exclusion from the national rare disease programme, RIMS remains committed to providing free treatment to all registered hemophilia patients, he said, adding that the CME served as an important platform for capacity building, public health education and the exploration of advanced treatment options such as bone marrow transplantation.
According to professor Sunil Kumar, the programme focused on advances in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of hemophilia and other bleeding disorders.
Key topics included early diagnosis, genetic counselling, challenges in low-resource settings and the importance of multidisciplinary care.
Eminent speakers addressed a diverse audience of faculty, clinicians, postgraduates and healthcare representatives.
The successful conduct of CME programme underscored RIMS Imphal's pivotal role in advancing medical education, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and addressing both rare and emerging public health challenges in the state.
