Bishnupur August 02 2023:
Oinam MLA's agriculture nominee Th Bir Singh has stated that paddy production will decline in 13 villages of Oinam assembly constituency this season as fertiliser has not been distributed in timely manner.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of his visit to farmlands in Toubul on Wednesday, Th Bir conveyed that even though the state is in the grip of ethnic conflict agricultural activities are being carried out by farmers.
However, paddy seedlings are not showing proper growth as fertiliser has not been applied on time even though the farmers are using water pumps to irrigate the fields due to scanty rainfall, he said.
The nominee also regretted that even if Toubul and Khoijuman under Oinam AC are known for compatible production of paddy and vegetables in the state the department concerned has failed to provide requisite quantity of fertiliser to farmers.
He also claimed that fertiliser allocated to Oinam AC is not enough compared to size of farmland and production, thereby implying flaw in the fertiliser distribution system or policy.
Bir also suggested handing over the charge of agriculture minister to someone from the rural assembly segment who is well versed with agricultural practices.
