Meira paibi leader Ima Kombi remembered

The memorial function of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur leader Ima Kombi was held at Lamphel Sana Keithel, here, on Thursday with those gathering offering floral tributes and observing two minutes' silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
In a release, Poirei Leimarol general secretary Th Apabi informed that people including leaders of meira paibi groups, clubs and organisations took part in the commemorative event and paid respect to the departed meira paibi leader.
The release further informed that Ima Kombi worked relentlessly for a united Manipur and took the lead in spurring public movement for repeal of the draconian Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA), under which many people have been killed and women raped and tortured in Manipur.
She also made relentless efforts to root out drugs from the state, it recounted, while affirming that despite demise of Ima Kombi on February 1, 2004, her contributions for betterment of the so ciety and its people shall be remembered.
While cautioning the people that different elements are scheming to disintegrate Manipur, Poirei Leimarol called upon the public to remain united for neutralising consistent attempts to create divisions among the ethnic communities.
