Imphal, October 19 2023:
When the state government cannot even make way for the state forces to enter Moreh and restore peace in the border town, arrangement being made for the displaced Meitei people from Moreh, who are taking shelter in different relief camps opened in the state, to return to their respective homes in Moreh seem an unlikely proposition, opined inmates of relief camp opened at Wangjing Lamding Higher Secondary School.
Personnel of 5th IRB and Manipur police commandos, who have been airlifted from Imphal on October 14 are currently stationing at the key location point (KLP) of 5 Assam Rifles which is located around 5 km away from Moreh town as they could not proceed towards the border town as Kuki women are blocking the road near Kondong Lairembi.
Terming it as unfortunate the inability of the state government to send in state forces to Moreh due to the blockade by the Kuki women, one Tameng Leima of Moreh who is staying at the Wangjing Lamding Higher Secondary School relief camp informed reporters that blocking the state forces from entering Moreh town clearly indicates the plan of the Kukis to occupy the houses and residences of Meitei people, The objection of Kukis against patrolling by special commandos and IRB personnel in Moreh town and restricting them from going out of the commando complex tantamount to carrying out unwanted activities in Moreh town by the people of Kuki community.
She further said that the dream of the Kuki people in Moreh to build new houses at the sites where houses of Meiteis used to stand and to occupy the Meitei houses could turn a reality in the absence of state forces in Moreh.
Tameng Leima also appealed to the state government to arrange ways for the state forces presently stationing at KLP to enter Moreh town and also enable the Meitei people who have been displaced to return to their respective houses in Moreh.
