Imphal, October 19 2023:
Five months after violence first broke out, the State police and Central security forces have now succeeded in instilling a sense of security among the people, said Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh.
He made the statement during a press meet held at his office in connection with the 132nd Raising Day of Manipur Police today.
Addressing the media for the first time since he took charge as DGP in June, Rajiv said the State police faced many difficulties and challenges during the last five months.
However, following the directives of the State Government and with the assistance of the Central security forces sent by Central Government, the police have succeeded in instilling a sense of security among the people.

The police is performing its duties at its best capacity and all efforts are being put in to restore normalcy, he said.
Some personnel of the State police and CAPF have made supreme sacrifices amid the current crisis.
Their sacrifices will never be forgotten, Rajiv said.
Wishing the people of the State on police raising day, Rajiv assured that the police takes the issue of drugs in the North-East States seriously.
During the current crisis, it was known that the State police lacked certain infrastructure and manpower, especially women personnel.
The Chief Minister was informed about the required infrastructure and manpower, he said.
Efforts to modernise the State police are on.
The proposal made for infrastructure development will enhance police mobility and improve forensic science, he said.
Heeding to the proposal, Rajiv said today the CM has made an announcement to recruit women personnel besides increasing the ration allowance for police personnel.
As the Central Government has given the green light to install 34 Police Out Posts (POPs) along the Indo-Myanmar border, construction of some outposts has been started, the DGP said.
Recently, he attended a meeting where border fencing was discussed, Rajiv said.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and agency which handles the work of the border fencing.
Responding to a query of the press, Rajiv said the main objective is to control and curb unwanted incidents and restore normalcy.
The frequency of firing has gone down significantly now.
Police's job is to protect the lives and properties of the people, he said.
To bring peace in Manipur, cooperation from all sections is needed, the DGP said, appealing to the public and civil society organisations to cooperate and help in restoring normalcy and bringing peace.
