Governor treasures activities of Scouts & Guides

Governor Anusuiya Uikey has said the objective of scouts and guides is to instil good human qualities in students, to cultivate cultured citizens, develop leadership skills, and assure citizen engagement in country building.
The Governor said at the Manipur State Bharat Scouts and Guides' 10th Governor Rally (Rajya Puraskar Distribution Ceremony) held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan here on Thursday that the mission of scouting is to contribute to the education of young people through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society.
It is a matter of great satisfaction to know that scouts and guides are actively and significantly contributing to the character development of Manipur's youth and to the fostering of unity, brotherhood, and secularism, she said.
Apart from that, Manipur scouts and guides have carried out many activities in the state, including the Swachh Bharat Mission, advanced courses for Scout Masters and Guides, and numerous training courses outside of the state.
Governor Uikey continued that, unfortunately, Manipur is experiencing turmoil as a result of the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3.Scouts and guides, in accordance with their objectives, can aid restoration of peace, harmony, and fraternity in society, she opined, while urging everyone to work together to resolve this issue peacefully and amicably.
The Governor noted that Bharat Scouts and Guides is the country's largest voluntary, non-political, uniformed youth organisation and educational movement dedicated to character development of young boys and girls without discrimination of caste, creed, or religion.
Insisting that only education from textbooks cannot fulfil one's knowledge, Anusuiya Uikey suggested that students join organisations such as NCC, NSS, Scouts & Guides, and others to gain knowledge through training, camps, and visits, so that their perspectives on the world become broader than before and will aid in personality development.
The Governor, as chief patron, presented state awards to 33 scouts and guides, as well as Asia Pacific Leadership Awards to two state commissioner guides L Lakshmi Devi and Ksh Phajaton Devi.
The ceremony was attended by education minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh, MLA Janghemlung Panmei, and Bharat Scouts and Guides state chief commissioner M Shushilkumar Singh, among others.
