Thoubal, October 19 2023:
A sit-in protest was staged by staffers of Public Health Centre(PHC), Leishangthem on Thursday denouncing looting of items worth approximately Rs 91,500 from the centre on the intervening night of October 17 and 18 .
Speaking to media persons at the protest site, PHC MO in-charge Dr Md Abdul Khalik informed that the theft was discovered by the staff on Wednesday.
Pointing out that the centre had remained shut for a long time due to a dispute, he lamented that the looting happened when the centre had just started re-functioning from August, 2022 .
Dr Abdul Khalik also appealed against repeating such incident and urged the government to appoint a watchman and fence the PHC to ensure no such looting happens again.
The agitators held placards inscribed with slogans like allow staffers to work peacefully, protect public property, arrest the culprits at the earliest, etc.
It may be mentioned that the looters broke into the centre by breaking the main gate and stole one LPG cylinder worth Rs 3500 (approximately), three Exide Solatubular 12 V batteries worth Rs 55,500 (approximately), 20 spectacles worth Rs 30,000 (approximately) and one ENT set worth Rs 2500 (approximately) .
