CCpur, July 28 2025:
A team led by Henglep MLA Letzamang Haokip and officials of Churachandpur district administration inspected the ongoing landslide debris clearance works along NH-02 (Churachandpur-Tipaimukh) road on Monday.
Heavy rains since the past few days triggered landslides at multiple locations along the NH-02 affecting access and mobility in the area.
Personnel and machinery of work agencies have been pressed into action to restore connectivity for the past few days.
The team also included Churachandpur DC Dharun Kumar, SP Prakhar Pandey, ADC Seiminthang Lenthang, Henglep SDO and others.
The team travelled up to the 59-kilometre mark of NH-02, covering the stretch between Chiangpi and D Khawzim, as well as other key inter-village roads under Henglep sub-division, to assess first-hand progress of the road restoration work.
The team also visited Old Phaisat, Bungkot, Lhanjang, Tuilaphai and Tuila areas for on-the-ground assessment of the damage and accessibility.
As part of the relief efforts, the team, in collaboration with the Henglep Sub-Division Chiefs' Association, distributed over 200 bags of rice to villages affected by the landslides in the region.
The primary objective of the visit was to evaluate the extent of the damage and fast-track the restoration process to enable early resumption of vehicular movement along this crucial route.
The team interacted with chiefs, villagers and held workers from NHIDCL and BIPL, and instructed agencies concerned to coordinate effectively to ensure timely and safe clearance of debris.
Meanwhile, the district administration reaffirmed its commitment to restoring normalcy at the earliest, placing utmost importance on public safety and uninterrupted connectivity.
Further efforts are also underway to liaise with relevant departments to mobilise additional relief materials to the affected villages.
Our Churachandpur correspondent informed that landslides occurred at around 90 locations along the Churachandpur-Tipaimukh road rendering people in the region unable to communicate as vehicular movement had stopped and transportation of daily essentials halted.
Sick and those needing immediate medical attentions are the hardest hit.
A 45-year old man named Thienkhothang Kipgen from L Khaopijang village had to be carried by villagers with a makeshift stretcher on shoulders as vehicular movement was not possible.
He was carried from L Khaopijang village to S Khawlian village.
Later, MLA Letzamang, who was inspecting the landslide hit areas, brought Thienkhothang Kipgen on his own vehicle from S Khawlian village to Churachandpur for treatment.
Earlier, MLA Letzamang held meeting with BIPL project manager Ranjeet, senior-engineer Saugata Dutta, supervisor Subhojit and other staff involved in the ongoing road clearance work.
The BIPL officials assured the MLA that all landslide debris up to Tipaimukh will be cleared within one week.
