Imphal, April 28 2025:
Former Patsoi MLA Ak Mirabai on Sunday questioned the performance of the double-engine government, alleging that it has achieved little over the past three years - except for pushing governance into decline, dissolving local bodies and causing an unprecedented economic downturn.
Inaugurating the newly constructed Ima Tubi Leima community hall at Taobungkhok Awang Leikai, Mirabai said that the BJP-led government in the state has completed three years of its second term, yet the public are still asking what it has achieved.
The ongoing crisis has set administration back by several years and the economy by two to three decades, she contended.
Mirabai said that the BJP government dissolved elected local bodies and replaced them with handpicked individuals, and also running the administration without checks and restrictions.
She also criticised the diversion of MGNREGS funds, saying the Congress had introduced the scheme to guarantee 100 days of employment annually to jobless families with timely wage payments, whereas the current government has deprived beneficiaries by diverting funds elsewhere.
Accusing the BJP government of violating the Constitution and allowing violent crimes and hate to grow, she said that the double-engine government has pushed the state into a critical situation.
Mirabai demanded immediate installation of a popular government and questioned why the BJP, despite having the support of all but five Congress MLAs, is unable to form a government.
She also criticised the local MLA for the lack of development in Patsoi AC, citing deplorable road conditions and denial of scheme benefits, including PDS rice.
Reflecting on her tenure, Mirabai said she had completed several water supply projects, yet those projects are still unable to provide safe drinking water to the public, questioning the incumbent MLA's accountability.
The event was also attended by former Changangei Zila Parishad member Sinam Mar-jit, social workers L Lokobal and L Tomba, retired executive engineers Ak Kuber and Ak Tikendra, along with several others.
