MTU organises FDP on GIS, remote sensing

Imphal, July 25 2025:
A two-week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) and Workshop on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing, organised by Manipur Technical University (MTU), was participated by 37 students and faculty members from various institutions across Manipur and beyond.
The participants were divided into 10 interdisciplinary teams and engaged in five-day hands-on, project-based activities tackling real-world challenges in sectors such as urban and regional planning, water resources, forestry and ecology, disaster management, arid agriculture and soil science.
The project work featured online project presentations, which were evaluated by chief geomatic officer Dr Rajendra Jena, and geomatic officer Sat-tyam Tripathi, from the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), Shillong - an autonomous society under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.
The assessors commended the innovative solutions and group efforts demonstrated by the teams.
At the valedictory ceremony, MTU controller of examinations Prof Wahengbam Jyotirmoy Singh, distributed certificates to all participants and congratulated them on their successful completion of the training, which concluded on Friday.
Workshop sessions were conducted by a team of experts from NECTAR, including Dr Rajendra Jena, Sattyam Tripathi, Roshni Rai (project assistant), and Nikita Gogoi (project fellow).
The programme's convenor Dr Meinam Annebushan Singh, and co-convenor Dr Khagok pam Gopal Krishna Singh, expressed their gratitude to Ramananda Nongmeikapam, registrar; Ksh Imokanta Singh, chief finance officer; and Prof W Jyotirmoy Singh for their support.
They thanked the NECTAR team for their expert guidance and collaboration.
