Imphal, March 22 2025:
In a bid to exorcise delimitation exercise amidst the ongoing crisis, Left parties of Manipur are all set to convene a meeting for political parties to discuss the matter.
The meeting is being scheduled at 2 pm of March 25 at MPP office, informed former secretary of CPI Manipur state council L Sotinkumar.
Addressing media persons at Irabat Bhavan Saturday, L Sotinkumar informed that a meeting of the Left parties of Manipur held on Friday discussed issues related with delimitation exercise and decided that the exercise should be postponed in respect of Manipur in view of the prevailing situation.
"Delimitation exercise has to be conducted based on voters' list but it would not be feasible to conduct the exercise before identification of illegal immigrants coming from Myanmar, which is one main cause for the ongoing crisis in Manipur," he said.
According to L Sotinkumar, forcible delimitation exercise without solving the issue of illegal immigrants, who have even settled in reserved forest areas, and NRC will have severe consequences.
Apart from this, conducting delimitation exercise hastily without solving the current crisis in the state would worsen the situation and accordingly the Left parties decided to oppose delimitation exercise, he said.
CPI(M) Manipur secretary Ksh Shanta also told media persons that Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland states were left out from delimitation committee formed in 2002.However, there has been a directive for conducting delimitation exercise for these states within three months.
To discuss the issue, Left parties have decided to convene a meeting for political parties on March 25 at MPP office from 2 pm, he said adding that the meeting will discuss the issue and take resolutions.
