Students advised judicious use of mobile phones

The 6th Edu Fest 2023, a state-level inter-school championship, got off to a promising start with over 500 students getting set to vie for the championship titles, here in Ukhrul town on Thursday.
Transport minister Khashim Vashum inaugurated the three-day event in the presence Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah, DC Zuringla Kengoo, SP Ningshem Vashum, ADC CEO David Kashungnao, ADC Nimmi Khamrang, NEFEC secretary AC Tamyo and other dignitaries at UBC Jubilee Hall, Khamphasom.
A joint initiative of NEFEC and Ukhrul district administration, Edu Fest endeavours to provide a platform for the students to showcase their creativity, knowledge and commitment to promote values in education.
Addressing the inaugural function, minister Khashim.
Vashum said, "I congratulate the team Edu Fest and the district administration which are working hard to provide this scintillating platform for the students of the district." Khashim, who is also the minister of animal husbandry & veterinary, expressed his joy on seeing so many young minds who will be part of the remarkable event.
He urged the students to work hard to make this annual Edu Fest exemplary, asking them to spread to their peers the goodness generated by the unique event.
Advising the gathering of student participants, the minister emphasised the ill-effects that mobile phones can have on their lives.
He specifically mentioned that although the mobile phone is a great tool for enhanced communication, it can also act as a distraction and potentially damage or destroy a person's career.
He said that student should limit use of mobile phones to ensure that their lives, as well as their careers, remain on the right track and urged them to have a clear vision and dream in life and to work hard to achieve them.
The minister enjoined the students to make the most of the event and hone their skills and talents.
"One has to pursue their ambitions with great enthusiasm if they wish to achieve success in life.
It is important to remember that hard work often brings success irrespective of what area one focuses on," the minister said, citing his own life experience.
Khashim called upon the students to give their best for their participation in the Edu Fest, which he termed as not just an event, but a historic moment in shaping the future of the students.
Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah, who attended the event as guest of honour, acknowledged the initiative of NEFEC and Ukhrul district administration and recalled the erstwhile literary celebration held in the town during his stint as DC here some 30 years ago.
He shared a few inspiring stories to emphasise the importance of wisdom, communications, and how one should not react in anger.
He said that success in life has a price tag.
It requires one to stay committed and hardworking, which is the only way to success.
He encouraged the students to focus on their studies and set a target to prioritise their goals.
In her welcome address, DC Zuringla Kengoo, who is also the chairperson of the managing committee, said that education within the confines of class room is insufficient and needs varied educational activities.
She further stated that Edu-Fest is one platform that contributes by providing a platform for students to showcase their potentials in areas that help them develop their skills.
The event will be illuminated with a series of educational activities leading up to the grand finale that includes spelling bee, quiz, painting, extempore speech, Acapella, mime, cultural show, and other competitions.
The event is being participated by 523 students from 23 schools in the town along with their principals, and teachers.
