Senapati, July 06 2025:
In an inspiring story of post-retirement transformation, D Rapi, a retired government employee from the Education Department, has found success in organic apple farming in Purul Rosofii village under Purul Sub-Division, Senapati district.
His apple orchard, planted with HRMN 99 variety saplings, has seen remarkable growth, producing over 100 kg of fruit in this year's harvest.
Rapi began his venture in 2021, planting around 350 HRMN 99 apple saplings with the aim of promoting sustainable farming.
The first yield came in 2024, producing over 20 kg, and this year, production has risen fivefold to more than 100 kg.
The HRMN 99 variety, known for its adaptability and sweet flavour, has proven particularly well-suited to the climatic conditions of Purul.
Speaking to the media during a visit to his farm, Rapi proudly shared that his apples are grown without the use of any chemical fertilisers or pesticides.
"It is completely organic," he asserted, emphasising that no external support or technical guidance has been sought so far, as he wanted to first witness the results on his own.
Encouraged by the success, Rapi plans to expand his orchard and distribute 100 per cent organic apples not only across Senapati district but also to broader markets within the state.
He also hopes to introduce additional fruits such as avocado, orange, and persimmon in the near future, though he noted that progress in this area has been delayed due to the unavailability of quality saplings.
Rapi, who dedicates significant time to farm maintenance - including clearing weeds at least five times a year - believes the land in Purul is fertile for various fruit cultivations.
Local villagers are reportedly already exporting fruits beyond the Senapati market.
